I just purchased a 1972 Tom Sawyer with a 302 ford and 888 out drive does this have a impeller in the lower unit or just the engine water pump? this is a great old boat that has been sitting for several years. 276 hrs on it.

There should be an impeller in the lower unit, they should be changed every 2 years. This is for raw water cooling.

Re: Mercruiser 888 outdrive

If you need to look things up, know that the whole system, motor and drive, was called an 888.

It's a ford 302 CI engine coupled to a "Pre-Alpha" or MC-1 drive. You'll find that most parts are interchangeable with the "Alpha I generation 1" drive but not the "Alpha 1 Generation 2" or later.

If you want to be sure exactly which parts to get when going to a dealer or looking online, use the serial number of the drive.

FYI if you need to replace the whole drive, the Sterndrive Engineering SE-106 will bolt right up.

It's pretty easy to get parts.

Yes, it has an impeller....
Everything stated above is correct....
You can download a free manual for your engine if you go to the 'adults only' at the top of this page....;)
Welcome to iboats, btw....:)
