Ok, so here is the question:

I keep seeing/reading about gaskets (or seals) for these plugs, but my drive doesn't have any... just the plugs.

I just drained and refilled the oil, and there was NO WATER in it (or shavings/flakes either), so do I really need them? Do I need to be concerned?

Thanks,
Dave

If you don't have water, they are there. Sometimes they will stay seated in the drive and the screw turns out without them. I have seen plastic, metal, other materials I don't recognize. If you have any doubt, get a couple at the merc dealer and replace them. Never messed with the newer drives, but I wouldn't think that would change...
