Installing Mechanical fuel pump Mercruiser 470

I installed a replacement mechanical pump because the old one was leaking at the diaphram. Now I am getting no fuel to the carb and I'm curious what I could have done wrong? It seemed simple enough to replace. Do I need to prime the pump somehow?

A little help please.

What type of engine are you attempting to get running?

It is a 1982 Mercruiser 470
