Hey everyone. I'm trying to replace the bellows on my Volvo Penta AQ280 outdrive. The side pins in the support arm are seized in place and I can't get them out. Any suggestions before I desroy them?

No reason to remove them to change the bellows. Just remove the upper gear box. Here is how to remove it.

I was under the impression that the upper gear unit would not come off until disconnected from the drive? Was this faulty info?

Sure was.

After you get the upper gear box loose, just lift it up, you may have to push the splined coupler down into the lower housing with a screwdriver. Then turn the upper sideways and pull straight back.

Be sure to use new orings when reinstalling the gear box. NEVER try to reuse the old ones.

Here are the Volvo part numbers for parts needed.

Fill Plug Gasket (Red) ------------------- 897682

don s. Thanks, that is use full info I have a 270 out drive and just had to battle those pins out recently on my boat I had to purchase a set of pin drive sockets and use the penetrating oil and elbow grease to get them out.Opening the out drive is a little scary, but if you have the new gaskets its probably not as bad as it sounds.
