Hey everyone, just wanted to start off saying thanks to everyone who has help me with my problems rebuilding my motor so far. we have everything put together and it started right up! we are ready to go out to the lake.

But i was wondering what the break in period of a rebuilt engine would be and how long we need to break it in for. Its a 1985 OMC 3.0l stringer. We replaced the pistons and piston rings honed the cylinders all that good stuff and BTW didnt need tp replace the crank or any bearings, they were all in good shape. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Re: Rebuilt Engine Break In

I just did the same thing with a long block 3.0L engine.

Here's Crane Cams procedure for camshaft breakin:

www.cranecams.com/pdf/548e.pdf

(If you replaced the cam/lifters)

Just don't run it wide open continuously.

High power settings will break-in the rings almost immediately.

What ever you do don't "baby" it.

Rick
