Not related to your question, but something I learned the (very) hard way... when you pull your old shift cable, be sure to tie a piece of string or wire to the end as you pull it out. (Weed Whacker line would be perfect.) Trying to find the right pathway for the new cable and catching it as it comes through the transom is REALLY, REALLY difficult. If you have a guide wire that allows you to pull the cable into the engine compartment and around the various engine parts, you will save yourself hours of aggravation.
