Stamos lower shift cable

I've been told that I have to re tap a certain hole to replace sterndrive cable I can't connect to the MerCruiser posting

Stamos is a boat manufacturer, that information is not relevant to your shift cable and drive

which motor/drive/year/etc are you working on.
