Knew I had a headache. After first spin on river.

Anyway replacing cracked head, was new when purchased, there are no flappers.

Are all gen 1 flappers the same.?

Could not even find any pieces in ypipe.

Welcome aboard.

What in 'ell are you working on?

What's left of the shutters are on in the lower unit or in the exhaust passage somewhere. That's where they end up.

Don't start a new thread to answer a question. You won't get any help that way. Both threads have been combined.

Got a serial number for the motor and outdrive? 3 or 4 inch exhaust?

Sorry but it never showed for awhile so tried to repost .

will try to get numbers tomorrow.

How do I measure for inches of exhaust.

Finding many things done wrong on this boat. Gonna be an expensive learning project for me. But it sure is nice to relax in waiting for the cats to hit.

It is not perfect in carpet and such. But then heck fish will be on floor anyway. Room to stretch out and take a nap also.

The Y tube.

But a serial number is best to chase parts.

I replaced the flappers on my 5.7 mercruiser as part of a resto and as stated, any remnants of the old flappers, should be at the bottom of the Y pipe or down in the lower drive. Changing them on my boat was easy enough, with room to work. Having said that, I remember reading somewhere that to change them, the engine must be removed!! Not so in my case. Sizes do vary in relation to the size of the Y pipe. Sorry, can't help you with the details
