What engine do I have?

Ok, new to me 89 ebbtide Montego 170, looking to get a manual for this, but can't cross the serial number, and can't even make it out on the outdrive. I don't want to assume anything as I was gonna look for points and was told otherwise!

try rubbing it with a #2 pencil. may bring the numbers up better
post a pic of the motor, a 17 footer may be the GM inline 4 140 or the 470 type FWC merc motor

Ayuh,.... Take a picture of the Whole motor, 'n post it,....

Bein' a 17' boat, I'll guess it's a 4 cylinder motor,....
If it has a radiator cap, it's a 470,...
If it don't have a radiator cap, it's a 3.0l,...

And the drive is almost certainly an Alpha 1.

Yes it's a 4 cylinder, no radiator. No good pictures on my phone thay dont shrink into uselessness to get 2mb, I'll get more after work.
So are all 3.0 essentially the same?

Instead of trying to "shrink" the photo's use a pixel reducer like Send Reduced for android phones or Pixresizer for pc's.

If you still have the points they are 6 cylinder Chevy 1964-ish points and condensor
