Getting ready to rebuild my pre-alpha outdrive for the first time. Other than a bellows kit which comes with the hoses and gimbal bearing, and an impeller kit, is there anything else I should do to the outdrive while it's off the boat?

Second question is, other than the alignment tool, what specialty tools do I need to do this job?

you need the correct below, depending on the year it could be the "with ridge" one. The very early ones were "without ridge"

You might want to run a pressure test on the out drive -- Its a great way to ensure all is well before final assembly.

Depends on what needs done, how far are you taking it? I replaced all the bearings and bushing on mine during my rebuild. I replaced the steering pin and lower pin also. But I had the entire hardware off the transom. Also might be a good time to replace the lower shift cable.

If it has trim limit, and trim indicators, now is the time to replace them also.
