Over-torqued Flywheel Bolt

Hi everyone,

I was changing the flywheel on a 5.7 truck engine that I am converting into a marine engine and when I was torquing the flywheel bolts, my torque wrench did not "click" at the 75ft lbs torque setting for the #2 flywheel bolt.

The bolt now free-spins in that bolt hole. Not good.

What are my options? Do I need to pull the crank out or is there a more time and cost-effective way to resolve this issue?

I'm really annoyed as it wasn't something that I did specifically. All the other bolts torqued to spec perfectly so I'm not sure WTH happened to the torque wrench on that bolt.

Any input is appreciated.

Did the bolt threads strip or the crankshaft threads. If the crank threads stripped it can be repaired with a Heli coil repair kit. They are available @ NAPA.

The crankshaft threads stripped. The bolts are new ARP bolts.

Scott - what is a time-sert repair?

You dont need ARP bolts for a stock flywheel in a stock cast crank if your motor never sees more than 6000 rpm

Also, i believe the ARP spec is 60 lb-ft with their moly lube and 75 lb-ft if you use sae 30
