mercruiser 120 hp drive shift cable route

hi.i bought boat with mercruser 2.5l, 1979-1982 year.boat was missing an outdrive and needed an engine alignment.now i am into bellows replacment and shift cable replacment.thats were i am stuck.i did not take any notes or pictures of how shift cable was routed inside engine compartment.could someone share any tips or diagrams or pictures on how to feed shift cable.
shift plate is mounted on top of the engine at the back and its perpendicular to engine.shift cable should enter plate from port side.thanx in advance

On mine it came through the transom and there was a clip on the bottom of the bell housing and then it just looped in from the port side.
I think I clipped it loosely to the transom as it came up from the bell housing to keep it out of the way.

This isn't listed for the 120, but the routing is the same

sounds good.i was not sure if lenght of the cable would be sufficient to loop it above the engine.i will give a try.thank you
