I'll have to post pics from PC when I get back to it but I guess I don't understand why this particular motor is such a pain... Again prob my ignorance but could you please elaborate on the subject?

Ayuh,.... The 470s are a unique 1 of a kind motor made for maybe a decade, but outa production for several decades,....

The least desirable Merc,.... Merc's own redheaded bastard step-child they've been tryin' to forget since it's conception,....

You would be cheaper off buying two complete long-tail setups from control handle to prop vs trying ro resurect the two drives and the 470 motors.

If you deside to resurect the 470s, you had better get a bunch of this

Ok here are the daytime pics. And if this is the case can you all tell me specifically what I need to be looking for... (have no idea what a long tail setup is). Remember you all are dealing with a complete ignorant person when it comes to putting together a boat. Also if the consensus is to unload these motors whats the best route to do that? Someone asked my timeline yesterday and I don't have one per say. This boat was given to me and it is going to be just a casual project. The outlined in yellow part is the brackets of some sort but there is only one.

The bracket standing up looks like the one for the tilt/trim pump. It will need one for each drive. A donor boat, or 2 might be the best bet since you are going to need pretty much everything.

OK does look like the boat did not use jackshafts. The motors were disconnected so the drives and transom assemblies could be stripped from the boat

Suggest get in there with a screw driver and try to push it into the transom and stringers. Try to find out if the bat hull is solid. My guess is there was some major problems with the hull for it to be put in place so it could be stripped. Not saying not to restore it, just try to find out what your going to need before major disassembly starts.

There is a guy in Iceland which restored a bot which was sunk and did an awesome job. This could be yours.

You could find some donner motors in the same place where you picked this boat up, also craigs list and such others

Ok what do you mean push screwdriver into transom with stringers?

If the wood is soft the screw drive will push into it, if its solid the worst that will happen is it might nick the paint. Your checking for softness

Chuck up a 1/4 drill in a chordless drill motor, use masking tape, mark off a length of about 3/4"

Make some test drills low in the transom and in the stringers

If the wood chips are light colored and dry, good to go. If the wood chips are dark and wet, then the hull has rot

Ayuh,.... Agreed,.... A drill is best, an ice pick probably 2nd for findin' rot,....

It would probably be a nice barge with twin 350s, or twin 4,3s,....

Donno whether the keyholes are far enough apart to go with V-motors though,....

Your thoughts were half way correct... The starboard side wood is definitely soft... The port side doesn't seem to bad

So what will these motors be worth and if I clean the hull up and maybe paint it and fix few odd and end things?

Ayuh,.... The motors are Worth more in pieces than runin' in a boat,....

There's a few folks still out there tryin' to get 1 more lap outa their's, 'n there's No more new replacement parts for 'em,....

The motors will subtract value from a boat, even if freshly rebuilt,....

$.30 per # for SCRAP. those motors have near zero value except to those who dont want to re-power what they have and need the parts that are NLA as Bondo indicated.

Wow... Ok so someone had mentioned their suggestion on what they would use to repower the boat but what is everyone's suggestions? And where do you all suggest looking?

Ayuh,.... It depends on many things, as yer not answerin' any of the questions posed,.....

Are You willin' to restore the hull, 'n any rotten wood,..??
Are ya willin' to glass in the keyholes, 'n recut 'em wider,..??

If not, yer limited to in-line motors,....

I apologize I didn't see any of those questions posted my friend but will answer anything you need. At this point I am willing to do whatever is suggested that is feasible. I thought I posted that the wood on the starboard side was soft but port side seemed to be fine. I don't have a problem labor wise of doing anything I need to do to the boat to get the best outcome.
