Cracked block on 4.3lx

I have a 96 Rinker 209 captiva with a 4.3lx Mercruiser.
My mechanic said he's 95% sure the block is cracked based on many signs without pulling out the engine. I dont have the money for a new block so my question is I found a 4.3l for a great deal, would I have any problems swapping my lx for a l?

historically the LX was a 4-barrel version of the L. however as Bondo asked, what year is your current busted motor
