How important is the plastic shift cable sleeve that is installed at the transom?

Mine pushed out when I was installing the new shift sleeve.

Alpha 1 Gen 2.

Thank you

No Title

nothing to worry about in your lifetime

LOL that's what my dad said. He was helping me when it happened.

The only thing that is baffling is the difference of size from the original and the one that came with my new shift cable. The new one is shorter (on the left in pic), than the original one (on the right in pic).

Thank you Doctor.

the one on the right is what I just removed from a Bravo1 housing and the one on the left from a Alpha1 housing

I own a 2004 Chaparral 215 SSi. I know the boat had the Bravo 1 as an upgrade option; however, the original owner opted for the Alpha 1 Gen 2. Do you think Chap just used the longer sleeve in case a buyer opts for the Bravo 1?
