Hi guys i have. Mercruiser 3.0 engine on a 2003 bayliner
I'm getting leaking fuel from the fuel line that connects to the Carb.. the brass bolt area . Is it supposed to have gasket ?? It's just metal flare tube against a concave metal ? I don't remember seeing a gasket ?

There is not a gasket, they are inverted to standard flare fitting. From the looks of where the arrow is pointing, I don't think its screwed in all the way, IF (clean threads) this is the original fuel line

If this is the case, remove, inspect, clean and reinstall

On the inside of the big connector nut where the little filter goes, there should be a small gasket first then the filter, etc.. The small gasket should help keep the fuel from back flowing to the fuel line brass connector threads...But yes the fuel line should be flared not needing a gasket.

Might want to check to make sure nothing has a crack between the fuel line itself, the flare ends, the big nut or the carb itself where the big nut fits.

The inside gasket is said to come in a gasket repair kit...Item number 28 right next to the large gasket #30, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/30905/4893/110

No gasket. That should be a flared fitting between the larger nut and the smaller nut. Are you sure the larger nut is tight on the carb? Does yours have a filter in there?

It does not look like the brass nut is tightened down all the way... is it cross-threaded?

Ok guys I'll double check ..
i replaced the inside gasket and new filter but same spring... tightened that into the carb along with a large metal washer.. then I tightened the fuel line .
I undid the fuel line 3 times and made sure it's going in all the way and smooth and tight:.
I I'll do a close inspection to see if there is a crack or damage anywhere..
this boat is a nightmare lol

Did you change and flare the metal line your self or is it the same line that was on there in the first place? And did it leak before, if I remember right the fuel metal lines should be double flared not single flared.

It didn't leak before I took it apart.. I was easy and careful but I guess I damaged the threads maybe?
It is leaking 100% from the brass threads area.. so either from the brass nut or the receiving end of the carb ?
How would I know ?
And here are pics of the line and nut

+1
Easy to cross thread, sometimes tough to get started. It also tends to feel like you cross threaded it when you didn't.

I have screwed on more than a million things lol I think I know how to screw on a nut .. but maybe this brass threads just had enough or the flare maybe a little damaged or warped ? I checked they look good though ? I'll take the whole
line out tomorrow and take it to a specialist and let them examine it.. or should I just buy a whole new line ? Just $40?
this is the correct part number ?

Fuel Line, Mercury - Mercruiser 32-14797-1

also I need the part number 90341 connector
i cant find it anywhere

If you remove the - at the end of 32-14797-1 and make it 32-147971 you should be able to locate a few fuel lines such as these two, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/147971-fuel-line .. https://www.perfprotech.com/fuel-line-147971/product/69929?search=147971

What is your engine serial number?

Plus the connector number looks like the part numbers superseded around a bit which looks to have ended with 3302-879194018, https://www.perfprotech.com/connecto...product/192157

The threads do not seal anything in this application, they just hold the flare tight against the cone. If it's leaking (and not split or has dirt in there), then the nut is not tightening the flare down.

You can remove that big nut (that holds the filter) and while it's out put it on the flare. If you tighten the flare nut, you should not be able to rotate the big nut - if it does rotate that would indicate that the flare is not tight against the cone.

If the threads are buggered, you need to figure out if it's the ones on the tubing nut or the inside threads on the big nut, or replace them both.

btw.. another suggesting when working on connections like this is to wirebrush the threads and put a little bit of grease on them before assembly.. then it's a bit more obvious when it starts binding before it's all the way in.

Ok guys I took everything out to closely examine them.. and I found the very last thread in the Big nut that holds the filter, has 3 little raised areas on last thread? It looks clean .. like it's made like that? Maybe to stop the brass nut from going in to much ? There are 3 evenly spread on last thread..

Nope, you need another fitting, threads are broken. Its a standard fitting used on the Rochester carbs . Could try your local junk yard if they still have some old cars in it.

It looks like it's factory , but luckily I found one on ebay!
Bought it for $11 hopefully that all it is..
and for
the line what's the exact part number for my year and engine ?
I found many different lines that look almost identical but are not..
its a. 2003 bayliner mercruiser 3.0l
181 cid

can I get that one end re flared ? Brass not looks really good .. so does the flare .. prefect , no cracks or warp or anything..

I wouldn't replace the fuel line. Just the fitting with the bad threads.

Guys I fixed it!
A guy at a classic cars shop used a brass washer and since it's a soft metal he put it on a vice , and tighted the 2 nuts together and it was a thing of beauty..
the washer transformed to this nice washer where it fits the flare perfectly !!
If fixed the leak and I adjusted my idle screw and mixture screw and SHES RUNNING NICE !!!
Since my RPM gauge isn't working I bought one of those cheap RPM gauge that you wrap it around the spark plug wire # 1 and it reads it about 550 but she sounds so much higher ??
But she's running , I'm happy !!!!!
