Hello, yesterday tinkering with engine because of running rough. Now when turn on i hear fuel pump energized but when hit start button no cranking. All i hear is a click noise coming from relay. Did i disconnect a sensor by mistake? what will cause engine to not crank? Please help! 1998 Mercruiser 5.7 TBI EFI #0l012408. Batteries are good.

If you hear a click then that sound to me like the starting solenoid has gone bad.

My first guess would be the slave solenoid, they are the first to go.

Slave Relay 89-96054T.jpg

Its on top the motor. Turn key one and jump across the top two large terminals on top. Doing this should cause the starter to turn the motor. If it does then its this solenoid, if it doesn't cause the starter to turn, then its the starter solenoid.

If the starter, start by cleaning the terminals
