I bought a nice exhaust elbow but is missing the flapper and retainer to hold the flapper. Does anyone know the part numbers ? I'll attach a picture.

I'll get engine number later today. It's from an 83 the I.d of the elbow is about 3.5" and o.d is about 4"

The retainer I need is different than the ones I'm finding.

I believe the part number of my elbow is 72082A2 j tube.

Do my best to stay clear of questions on 470 but do think this may be easy enough for me.

From your pic and it being an 1983, it appears you have the exhaust pic on the left. It also uses rubber grommets to hold the flapper in. The one on the right of the pic is for a different type.

Thanks dodge.

I just went to a shop and they pulled this same picture. This elbow is different than mine, mine goosnexks and has 4 bolt holes that hold the retainer. I'll add another pic shortly

I have the bad elbow that has an old retainer in it. I may have to try and salvage that retainer, it's pop riveted in place (and not sure if it's still good) and I still wouldn't be sure what flapper to get.

My engine serial number is 6123990
1983 glasply 19'
470 engine, model 488 has the bigger head and is supposed to have a 4 barrel carb but mine doesn't and it's all stock

That one is different also. I'm trying to attach another picture of the elbow I'm replacing. Resolution issues. It has a retainer in it that I may be able to salvage if it's complete?? And I'd still need the right flapper It goose neck s down quite a bit where flapper is

As before I'm not a 470 guy, but I do believe the list pic above is what you have. Just note that item 2 might not look long enough, but his is a breakdown pic so size is not exact. Hope a real 470 guy comes along to verify

Sweet! Dodge I think your right about the #2 piece. But

what about the gooseneck, mine tapers from a 4" o.d to about 3" o.d where the flapper would sit? Maybe that elbow picture isn't accurate either?

So does my engine number suggest my engine is an 1982 model?

Yes number 8 is flexible and your motor is an 82 from your serial number

Yeah, there are two different styles of exhaust, yours appears to be the older style shown in post #4. You should be able to reuse the clips, and just replace the shutter.

Awesome, Thanks guys. I'm getting a flapper today, curious how it attaches to the clips without falling off.

So the thicker center part of the flapper goes up toward top of tune? Looks like that in picture. I'm Assembling it now.

I may have an issue with flapper. Picture isn't that clear but you can see how the the metal cross member has a small rubber nub attached to it. It makes it a bit to large for the to slide into slot in retainer. Maybe that rubber nub is there from production and needs to be cut off?

I cut it works good

I think my flapper is good. Sorry about pic quality, it has to be low resolution or it won't post

It might just be an illusion but from my view its in up side down. The flapper should close when water comes up from the bottom, and open for exhaust gas.
