Engine dies when put in reverse. Please help

HI all, I have an 78 Sunrunner with the 470 Mec., and everyou time I go to put it into reverse it dies on me. I have this switch that I think is the problem but not sure or what it even does/ is. I have a couple pictures of it.
It won't let me upload any pictures, says there to big, and suggestions.

The shift cutout switch is probably what you're refering to. If you don't know about the system, or how it works, have a read of this -> http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser-...ml#post1930449

It could be the cable needs replacing, or the shift cable slide cavity in the bell-housing is full of crud. If it is full of crud, you need to find out where it's coming from.

The forum has a size limit to the photos, so I usually resize them after I take them. Another option is to set your phone/camera to a lower quality setting, then post them.

You can also post them to a photo sharing site, like Photobucket, and post the link here. That works very well, and is what I do for almost all my attached pictures and drawings.
