New to me used alpha 1 gen 2 that has the shift shaft facing rear wards instead of forward. When I removed my broken lower end I made sure to be in forward gear and everything went smoothly for removal. I'm new to these lower units and have researched a bunch of different resources. I'm wondering could the previous owner rebuilt it incorrectly or am I just missing how to get the shift shaft to face forward? We've ordered a couplet new lower unit, but found this locals to use until the new one arrives. Attached pictures of my original and the new to help describe it better.
