ok the boat is a 78 and it came to me with bad motor and half apart. its just about all back together but i'm missing a hose. the motor has a log type ex manifold on one side and a different style on the other side it comes to the middle and up. the hose I need comes off the bottom of this manifold and up to the thermostat housing I think. if someone can make sense of what I'm saying and has a part number for said hose that might help me a lot

Is this a stern drive powered boat? if so then the below info may help....If it's inboard then it may not. It would be best to know your engine serial number to help find most of these parts.

What side of the boat is the exhaust hose that you need.... Port = Left or Starboard = Right when facing the bow of the boat.

The different style exhaust manifold is referred to as "center-rise" exhaust.

Being there seems to be mixed parts, the parts catalog could be covered under different year ranges. The center-riser exhaust looks to have started in the 1982-1986 year range while the log style was used in the 1978 - 82 year range.

Here is the thermostat and hoses for the center-riser exhaust, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31733/1077/160

While here is the center-rise exhaust, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31733/1077/150

Here is a complete parts catalog for a later model engine year that "might" work for you in some cases since you have mixed parts, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/260-4-bbl-gm-305-v-8-1982-1986-6218

Here would be your complete original parts catalog for the 1978 engine model, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/260-4-bbl-gm-350-v-8-1978-1982-4908
For the log style exhaust and If your thermostat housing looks like item # 1, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31737/990/70
And your exhaust looks like this log style, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31737/990/60
Then these are the hoses for the log style exhaust, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31737/990/90

Quite a few different style thermostat housings were used on that era Mercruiser engine. A few photograph would tell us a lot....
