Timing 1984 mercruiser 140

I just bought this boat an want to tune it done every thing just need to time it dont see any vacuum or other typ of advance device ? Any help would be great thanks

with a points system, you wont. points are done mechanically, electronic systems by the ign module or the ECM module

Boats don't run vacuum lines. On yours there are weights in the distributor that swing out as the engine goes faster to advance the timing.

only automotive engines have a vacuum assist on the advance. this is for light-load cruising. Boats are like industrial motors. no light loading (always under heavy load)
