Hello, Would it be a good idea to replace my fuel pump on a 1990 7.4 Mercruiser as a proactive measure? Its not giving me any trouble currently, and is original equipment.
thanks jim

Howdy

If you know its the original, it would be a good idea. Being it is block mounted need to check your oil every so often. I would get the Airtex model 60932, it will cost much less then the Merc model. Airtex makes the fuel pump for Merc, just doesn't have the black paint on it

Looks like there's possibly going to be a difference between the two designs and part number wise.
Here would be your two options for brand names/part numbers for your engine year range, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31920/959/90

Also this fuel pump is available through iboats as well in aftermarket, http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Parts-Ac...--searched.1--**********.619261528&q=862048A1

thank you for the info. I was looking at different brands and am trying to figure out what the difference between a sierra 18-7288 and 18-7288-1 is . Not sure if it is a serial number update, gph difference .I obviously have to replace with correct pump like which is shown on the site you provided . Any idea who might know the answer to this question ?
