I'm going to replace the bellows on my alpha one gen 1 along with the trim sensors. I already have both on order (OEM Mercruiser). Looking at several posts, it appears to be highly recommended to replace the shift cable also. I haven't had any shifting problems at all, but if now is the time to be proactive and do it, I should probably do it. Since I have on order the complete bellows kit that includes the shift cable bellows, is mercuiser part number 865436A02 adequate or should I get 865436A03?

865436A02 is just a shift cable kit with no installation gaskets or bellows where 865436A03 offers an install kit which includes shift bellows, Install O-rings and gasket. If the Bellows kit you ordered offers the install gasket/O-ring kit, then 865436A02 would be sufficient.

The Kit I ordered is part number 30-803097T1 transom repair kit. It has the shift bellows among many other things, but I wasn't sure if I would be missing anything by combining the 865436A02 with the transom service kit. Would I be missing any seals or O-rings this way? It looks to me like the shift cable may come with at least one O-ring from what I can see in some pictures. I don't like throwing away new parts and I already collect way to many things for "just in case I need it". If I would have all the parts needed using 865436A02 it would also save me a few bucks.

Your transom kit on order looks to have all the sealing items you'll need to re-install the drive so by ordering just the shift cable kit A2 would only be needed to complete the job. If you ordered the A3 kit then you'd have a few extra of the same parts coming in your transom kit.

The A2 kit doesn't offer any O-rings to re-install the drive but the A3 kit does.

Thanks for your help! I think I've seen a reference to the 865436A03 kit containing a "shift arm" but I haven't seen a reference to the 865436A02 kit containing a shift arm. Is this a component that should be replaced?
