What do you use to support your outdrive while tightening the big retainers. I have done several reseals using a vise on the skeg but figure one day I may break one off while torqueing that retainer behind the u-joint.

I made a drive stand which holds it in the center, I torque from there

I strap mine to the railing on my front steps.
It keeps it secure so I can torque it down.
It's all I got to work with.
I'd be interested to hear of other techniques.

That isn't bad, could even strap it to a tree

Here is my engine stand which is also a drive hoist install tool, and drive work fixture with a little assist to hold it from moving

I like that. I was just reunited with my engine stand so I might try and use it like you did.

AllDodge, I could bolt my stand down in the garage. Marc, I could only imagine my wife's reaction to gear lube on the front steps. Hey,it worked, and I do have an iron railing. Thanks all.

I use a work-mate (folding work bench)

Since it is highly adjustable, I can easily position the outdrive work working on either the upper or the lower unit.
