I have a mercruiser 3.0 with a tired alpha one gen 1 on it. It has a cracked lower unit and the trim cylinders are in need of a rebuild. I found a great deal on an alpha one gen 2. Would it be possible for me to use it if I get the gimbal housing/transom assembly with it? Basically, what would be needed to do the conversion. Reason im asking is I could buy a gen 1 for $400 and then change the impeller or get the gen 2 with the housing and trim cylinders for $150.

If you change the gimbal housing back then it is bolt right up. The internal transom plate is the same the components on the outside all need changing.
