1987 Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha 1 Gen 1 Intermediate shift cable

I am pretty new to Iboats and would appreciate any help on my topic. I have an 87 Vmaster V170 17' pleasure boat with above topic engine and outdrive my question is will an Intermediate shift cable for the gen 2 work on a gen 1. I cant find nothing on the internet about what cable will work. my engine serial no. is 0B 713827 and the transom serial no. is 0B 676334. any help or maybe a sierra part no?
