Hi All My question is can it be done ? I own a 2007 Crownline 23 foot with a 5.0litre mercruiser ow678372.Since the day I bought the boat it has erratic temperature issues. Its really my brother in laws boat but I won't go into that I just want to make the boat bulletproof. Why can one not change the thermostat housing to a 4 inlet, bring the inlet line directly to the thermostat.Lose the T at the entrance to the water pump and also eliminate the lines that go directly out the elbows thru the SPDS when the boat is cold and make all the water go thru thermostat housing, manifolds, risers and elbows all the time.Wheh anyone that can understand and parry would be appreciated

I've looked at pulling mine off a few times. Doesn't look too difficult.. You need to choose which way you want to go. I was looking at the simplest way, which is to put standard plugs in the sides of the block, clear those hoses off the water manifold directly below the front pulley. Then remove the hoses off the bottom of the exhaust manifolds, again replace the fittings with 'standard' fittings. That would pretty much do it for me.

If you wanted to completely remove the entire water manifold it would take a little more. You'd need to replace the hose or plug the opening in the cic pump to thermostat housing hose. Put a fitting in the thermostat housing to take new water inlet hose. Remove the hoses that run to the front of each elbow and plug the hole. That would also change the exhaust manifolds from warm to cold. And that would require replacing the elbow gaskets from restrictive to full flow..

Chris, the idea of not having to replace thermostat housing is intriguing and would save a lot of monies. Would you still recommend this configuration with 1.7" risers? I was thinking about just removing the restriction in the existing gaskets to save additional.

just remove the manifold fittings and install ones with the blur drain plug
remove the engine block drain tubes and install brass drain fittings
cap or remove the hose connector tube
remove the single point drain cannistor and replace with copper and add a drain plug.

Read the Help Tip on top of the page and start a new thread. Chris may or may not be in range.
