Hello,

I have a maxum 1750 sr with a mercruiser alpha one gen two. My gearlube fitting assembly is broken. I took off the e-ring already but I can't get the fitting assembly out. Does anyone know how to take out the fitting assembly properly?

Ps. photo of the fitting assembly is in the link below. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MerCruiser-...63-53-87843-/371323924157?hash=item5674a16ebd

Thanks in advance,

Howdy

Have you removed the gimbal ring or bell housing yet?

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:)

Once you remove the E-clip from inside the boat, the fitting will slide out to the rear of the boat. There are some O-rings that are making it to be a tight fit. You could either try pushing on it from the inside of the boat or get some long nose hose pliers and slightly twist the fitting as you pull it out from the outside of the boat.. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...sp=1&qs=SC&sk=

Don't forget to remove the hose on the outside as well and more importantly be careful re-installing the little hose on the outside of the boat as the fitting hose barb is a weak point under installation pressure.

Shouldn't have to remove the ring or housing as though it's a tight fit to work but there's room if using tools.

Thanks for welcoming and helping!

I was scared to disrupt it. ?t's quite tough to push it out from the inside, so I'll try it by using a long nose hose pliers and twisting now I know th probably tighted because of the o-rings.

Thanks guys!

Not sure how much you will be able to twist, because the fitting sits in a formed recesse. At MerCruiser school we are taught to use a 1/2" drill bit to drill the head of the fitting off and push it into the boat, that way you don't have to remove (and probably drop) the e-clip. Hint for reassembly---have a helper use something like a broom handle to push in on the fitting on the outside of the boat while your inside trying to install the e-clip.

I just did that job...Why do they make these things out of plastic!!! The older ones were brass.
Mine was easy to remove. After removing the E clip with a long thin screwdriver, I just pulled it out from the outside of the boat.
You didn't mention what engine you had or if is out of the boat or still in there.
I have the 4.3L and it was a real pain to get my hand in there to install the new E clip. I dismantled as much of the exhaust I could in order to get some room to get my arm in there. Heck, I could barely even see the fitting, let alone reach it!
I was told to buy extra E clips in case I dropped and couldn't find it. I did drop one, but was able to find it.
You would think the clips were made of stainless, but I was able to pick one up with a magnet.
Someone suggested soldering the clip onto a long screwdriver, then just break off the solder once the clip is seated. I couldn't get the solder to stick.
In the end, I just wedged my body into the engine compartment, contorted my arm between exhaust and steering components and eventually (with some choice words unable to print here) got that clip on.
Hope you don't struggle as much as I did.
Let us know how you make out.

Hey Guys,

It has been a while ago that I replaced the fitting kit by using one of your ideas!! Sorry for this late update but I had some PC problems. What I did to take out the old fitting kit? FIrst of all I drilled a hole in the fitting kit. Then I push a strong small rope from the outside in and then I made a double knot at the inside of the boat, so I could pull the fitting kit out.

Thanks a lot!!
