1987 Evinrude Control Box Removal

We are attempting to replace the control cable, but in order to do this we must remove and open up the control box. It looks as if 2 screws come out and your good to go.... but this is not the case. we've cranked on those screws and they turn but aren't going anywhere. How do you get this darn thing off????

???????-----Can you reach in behind and see if there are nuts on these 2 screws ??????????

Those two screws are holding it on to the side panel. Unless you can get to the inside, you will either have to drill them out or get a hacksaw blade in behind the control unit itself and cut them off. Once you have the unit free, there should be some screws coming in from the back on the control to allow you to open it up...
