johnson/evinrude power pilot control box issues for a 1975 75hp evinrude

hi all, im having an issue with my control box. when i shift to drive and advance the throttle the engine doesnt follow. also i havent been able to really get it to shift into reverse

Disconnect the cables from the motor and then go through the shift /throttle process while watching the ends of the cables.

found the culprit i have a busted throttle cable that when the throttle lever is advanced doesnt allow the cable to advance the lever on the motor

also could someone please point me in the right direction as to where the thermostat is?

On the top back side of the cylinder head. Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up your motor under cylinder and crankcase and you'll find it.
