1959 35 hp evinrude lark

I just purchased this motor, the motor would only turn a little bit I found a bolt on the steering column and removed it the motor now turn freely, what is this bolt for? it on the top part of the column to the left,

Sounds like the tension adjustment, but honestly without more info and/or pictures that is merely an uneducated guess...

Leave the bolt in there, but adjust the tension on it to allow for turning.

Thanks, I have a 1960 18hp evinrude with a tiller handle on it, I was wandering if I could take it off and use it on the 1959 35hp lark evinrude?

All you can do is compare both motors in the mounting area and see if it will work.

Thanks, if I wanted to hook this steering to a teleflex steering, which I found a 14ft mckee craft has what do you need to hook it up to the engine, it just has the end of the telefex cable going to motor.
