Can the timer base - sensor assembly cause intermittent firing problems or is it more likely to be a power pack. I replaced all the coils with no change.

It's possible Sherman but most likely it's the pack. Can you describe the problem? Info always helps.

Re: 1979 evinrude 115hp timer base

This most often happens just after start up. The engine acts like it is running on three cyl. for about 1-2 min. as I try to accellerate. Then it kicks in and may run fine the rest of the day including many stops. I warm it up good and it takes me 5 min. to idle out of the harbor. Then it just doesn't run right for that 1-2 min. Real big loss of power then it takes off great. Could the timer base be hanging up on its rotating bearing.

Sherman this certainly could be the timer base sticking. You can pull the motor cover off and watch to see if this is what's up.<br />DHP
