Is a 1992 Johnson 30hp Model#J30ELENR supposed to have a cover on the carb?

I recently bought a 16' Lowe aluminum boat with this motor on it. I am getting it all tuned up and running and noticed there is no air filter or any kind of cover on the intake of the carb. I have noticed this on other outboards but I wanted to make sure that there isn't supposed to be one on this particular outboard. My main concern with this is the fact that the foam inside the engine cover is starting to deteriorate and I am concerned that some of that foam could get sucked into the carb.

No. It didn't come with one as the bean counters at the factory were working overtime again.

That's what i thought. There is 3 threaded holes one at the top and two at the bottom like you could bolt something on there. Do you know if it is possible to find something that will bolt on there?

Probably something from an older motor. You may want to go to the top secret files at the beginning of this forum and look up salvage yards.
