hello my 70 hp evinrude on the muffs idles around 1700 rpm in the water idles at 1100 rpm and 850-900 in gear is this a problem or normal otherwise it runs great. On my 16 ft starcraft I can turn a stainless 17" pitch prop right to 6100rpm and a 19" pitch to 5900 I know the 19" pitch is the right one , just need to know about the idle

The factory specs call for the normal operating range of that engine to run between 5000 and 6000 rpm's. So you are right close to the max rpm's. I'd probably try to get the engine to run around 750 at idle-set when the boat is in the lake and in forward gear. As the idle rpm's increase above that figure, it results in slightly more gear face wear each time it is shifted into gear. I know those 3 cyls are not known to be good idlers at low rpm. If it just does not like that 750 lower rpm, you may just have to live with that higher idle.

thank you very much it barely clunks going in to gear so i think that is good really i am more worried the idle on muffs If i set the idle any lower it just starts to die in the water
