Hi,

We recently replaced out 9.9 1990 Johsnon with a 1974 25hp Johnson. We are trying to setup the steering, but it seems to give too much swivel. Any tips on how to connect the swiveling part, or just discard it?

The mounting point on the engine should be fixed, meaning that it does not move from side to side.

Do you get enough clearance from the rod to fully turn in both directions? It would work better if you could get a bracket like the one on front of the engine shown in post 5

Different year, but this is how that steering attachment is supposed to fit to the motor. You will never get that push-pull system to work 100% correctly on that motor because the motor wasn't designed for it. It will work, but not "right". There will be a compromise somewhere. Make sure it will tilt without busting something.

F_R I've seen that same bracket accept with a pc on the front to mount that ball joint instead of the 2 on the sides to connect the pulley cables. It actually works well when done tat way with the correct bracket..
