This is my first Johnson motor, so here is the dumb question....

It is a 1978 85 HP Javelin Seahorse. Was this motor made for salt water use too? Also, is it better to replace just the impeller, or rebuild the whole water pump? The motor has been sitting for a couple of years.

Stumpys, The best thing that you can do with the water pump is to go ahead and replace all the components. You are going to have the lower unit removed. Go ahead and replace the cup, impeller, and wear plate, and gaskets. All of those items should be in the kit. Better to do the job once, then several times.

And yes, you can run it in saltwater. Just flush out the motor with fresh water every time you pull the boat out.

Thanks.... I figured that I had better do it right the first time.
