Never one to leave well enough alone, or maybe it's the German in me.........
My 1991 "Rude 70 HP VRO runs OK, compression OK, but.............
Cruisin' though E bay to see what there for my outboard, I came across a listing for a good looking? 1985 'Rude 70 outboard.
No bids, just place on there.
Mine has power lift, this doesn't appear to.
I got to thinking...........
"IF, I can pick it put cheap, can I keep the power head, lower unit, etc as spares"................
I looked on line to see what year power heads mine compare to, 1988-1991, but.................
It LOOKS the same as mine, (I dunno about bolt patterns on the block etc..............).
It has the controls included.
WILL the power head bolt up to my outboard, lower unit etc or does anyone know the difference??????

Biggest difference is the crankshaft splines. '85 will be a 4-spline shaft. '91 will be a fine spline shaft.

Well that sure leave my boat adrift without the plug being in, now doesn't it!
I figured there was SOMETHING different, but looking at a parts break down, I just could not catch it.
Thanks!

Quick check would show you that the gasket between the block and exhaust housing is totally different too.

Tanks!
I threw a bid on E bay for it, figured if I get it cheap enough, use it as a complete spare.
Plop it on, whilist I repair mine (if it ever goes "sick").
we'll see how it goes............

The motor you speak of has power trim.Easy to see the wire the T&T and relay box on top of motor.

Certainly looks clean and worth bidding on, but the seller has a reserve on it...so his number could be ridiculous.

I was wondering what that box was for.
I was looking for the trim buttons on the side of the housing like my '91.
The "good" condition of it caught my eye.
I threw a larger bid on it, but not a "killer bid'.
I ALWAYS seem to get outbid with 1/2 second left on these things!
I would like to look it over, run a compression test, see what kinda guy he is, (look @ the shop to gauge the kinda guy), before I'd go BIG on the bid.
He also has a British Sea Gull I threw a bid on. That looks a bit more "rough" but, most of the parts SHOULD fit on the one I have as my trolling motor.
Like I said, I don't REALLY need the outboard, but..........................
