1984 evinrude 35hp impeller replace help!!!!!

I bought a 14ft alumna craft with a 35hp evinrude model number E35RCRR I'm changing the impeller and I'm having serious problems trying to put it back together I don't know how to put the key way in has anyone replaced an impeller on this style of motor

Is it a pin or a wedge shape plastic piece ??

Wedge. the Main drive shaft is still in the motor should it have slide out with the foot?

Yes the driveshaft should slide down with the lower unit.--Time to make an adapter to clamp on the shaft and pull it out with a slide hammer.

Does the shifting linkage come down as well?

?????----Have you removed the water intake screens and disconnected the shift rod???

Drive shaft was stuck in motor pull it out everything went together perfect motors running great thanks everyone for the help
