I have a 1995 Johnson, model number J115GLEOC. I've been wanting to replace the water pump on my motor but have been struggling to disconnect the shift rod and drop the lower unit. I have disconnected the shift/throttle cables but cant seem to get the shift rod to pop off the pin. There doesn't seem like there is enough room to even move the rod off the pin. I have moved through the gears and tried to get as much room as possible but still can't get it to go. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jeff.

you don't move the shift rod....you push the pin and the pin holder away from the shift rod!!!!

that's it, that's all the factory manual has to say on how to release the shift lever in the process of removing the lower unit...

maybe your pin is gummed and sticking inside the shift rod hole...maybe the shaft that needs to get pushed is hanging up and gummed and wont move its full length...

just keep at it.
