Hello, have a 87 evinrude 100hp commercial model.
Previous owner ripped the boot off the end of the power pack wire that connected to the coil.
I bought a new boot and connector but while trying to install ripped the wire so now it's an inch to short.
Can I splice about a 4 inch piece of wire in there or should I just get another used power pack around $40.
If I can splice it without any repercussions how should I go about it?
Thanks.

The length of the wire is of no consequence (splice it). I'd suggest a 1/8" bare wire shoved together, then wrapped with a fine copper wire, followed by soldering which makes it a secure connection. Be sure to have it covered by a portion of heat shrink tubing.

NOTE: Slide the heat shrink tubing over the wire before doing the repair. You'll never be able to fit it over either boot. :)
