Hi All

Have a slight issue with my johnson. Once it cold starts it usually revs higher for around 3 seconds then idles down. At this stage it is prone to stalling. I have to raise idle lever. Then once warm back idle lever off and put into gear to take off before it stalls. Does also happen when starting warm. Although if iv run it for a while and come to a stop and to an idle it will idle fine.

Any thoughts?

Yes check compression and if thats ok, try backing out the needle valves a half turn and if that fixes it back it back in a touch until its not stalling anymore from warm

Another post with no model number. This could be a four stroke or a two stroke. We simply cannot help accurately if we don't know what engine the question pertains to.

Real good point Dasel. We probably shouldn't answer them back if they don't post a model # !!!!

Well, two stroke carb'ed model. Unfortunately, there are a host of issues that could cause your problem.
First, do as suggested above. Compression test, and open the idle mix screws as suggested.
The other things that can cause this is clogged idle circuits in the carbs, incorrect link and sync, idle speed set too low,
and other more exotic problems that are unlikely.
You will have to go thru the systems, ignition, compression, and carbs to eventually find the isssue.

Whatever you do, please post back your repair steps, and any results as you proceed.

It could very well be a simple adjustment as Bosun suggests.
