The S is usually to to with a production run and a mid year change on some parts and is usually insignificant.

I know the information is floating around here (likely in the sticky), but I pulled a chart from another site that I use for parts diagrams

*Edit*
Chart doesn't copy/paste too friendly.

E= electric start with remote steering
L= Long shaft, or 20" midsection.
The "S" is a model run suffix and probably only means something to the engineers at OMC/Bombardier. It is not a significant digit to the customer.

The "S" identifies any mid-year changes that were made.... And only IF there were any such changes. Only significant if you have to order the part that had the change, and that will be shown in the parts book. Otherwise, it means nothing.
