I have a 1991 Johnson 175 VRO, non system check, with a fully functional VO including the no oil warning. I was going to get a factory OMC tach for it and while looking I saw that the System Check tachs were roughly the same price. Did they make a plug and play type adapter that would work on the older VRO engines for the the oil warnings and the overheat warning using a system check tach?

I believe you'll need the whole boat wiring harness and then an adapter for that harness to work on your motor.

Those system check tachs use an 8 pin connector. If you can find one of those, you can wire it yourself.

I am thinking if you went with a post 95 CONTROL AND the systems check tach, you could find an adapter to use with your pre-95 engine
