Does a larger idle jet lean the mixture?

1979 140 evinrude. Do I need a LARGER or SMALLER idle jet to get more fuel to the idle circuit? Im reading conflicting info.

The idle jet is really not a fuel jet, it is an air bleed. The smaller the jet, the less air/more fuel.

That explains the reason you need a smaller jet if you have to keep a partial choke on to get a decent idle..

I believe the idle jet is a fuel jet on that carb and it would have to be larger to get more fuel. Look at a break down of the carb.

could be wrong with ya boobie.....but thats what i see also.

The idle jet on that carb is on the side, close to the main fuel jet. On that model, it's not termed an idle air bleed, so follow Boobie's sizing comment.
