140 hp timer base or stator bad?

I have a 1990 140 Evinrude that recently lost spark on all 4 cylinders at once. Checked ignition switch and its fine. I have it narrowed down to either the timer base or the stator. Which should I replace first? My thoughts are the timer base.

Exactly what I was going to post boobie.....They have a great troubleshooting guide for almost all makes of engines. Make sure to rule out the kill switch though before changing parts......
