1981 25hp Johnson manual start long shaft

A few questions...<br />Does anybody know where the water intake is on this motor?<br />How important is it to balance the prop? Mine is misshapen and beaten up.<br />How do I check the impeller? Is this the same thing as the water pump?

Paul,<br /><br />The water intakes are on the bottom of the lower unit, sometimes having small screens across them. They are located on the sides of the lower unit. It is very important to have the prop balanced, as it can wear out your propshaft seal and components inside the lower in it from vibration. Either buy a new one or take yours to a prop shop to have it repaired. The only sure way to check an inpeller(Water Pump) is to dissasemble the lower unit and inspect it. Best to replace it, as it's sometimes hard to tell by looking at it if it's in top shape. It is rubber and can wear over time causing a loss of cooling. Pretty easy if you have a Mnaual!
