1979 - 75HP 2 stoke gear issue?

Hi

Someone I know has a 1979 75hp 2 stoke Evinrude

Engine fires over fine. When you put it in to forward gear, the engine stops dead.

What is a common cause of this? Gear coggs screwed?

In nuetral the gears are all spinning !-------Perhaps the motor is not developing enuff power to turn the prop.--------Check compression and check for spark on all 3 cylinders.

Check the gear case for water or any metal pieces.
