My 1993 Johnson 25hp has a 0584590 - Temperature Switch assembly that hooks up to the power pack. I just put in a new temp switch assy when I did some cyl head work. I don't see how this switch can give any warning as there is no wire that I can see going to an alarm. My engine is a J25RETS, it is a 1993. I disconnect the temp switch bullet connector to the power pack and grounded the power pack wire and no alarm. My engine is electric start and manual start. What is the purpose of the temperature switch assembly say on a manual start tiller? They show a temperature switch assemble on those too, so, what is its purpose if it has no horn? Does it shut off the engine do to overheat?

Not shut off the engine but limit rpm to about 2,500 when overheated.

Therefore, if I disconnect the temp switch bullet connector to the power pack and grounded that power pack wire I should not be able to go past 2500 rpms, correct? That is the way to test the system? I have a 1990 manual (but my engine is a 1993) but it says nothing about the power pack.
