Ok, I'm kinda new too boat motors. I have an early 70's model johnson 25hp outboard tiller steer motor. When I'm going down the water it jumps from forward into what seems like neutral. Someone has told me to adjust my shift linkage. But... Idk what that is or where it's at. Lol. Could someone please break it down Barney style for me so I can understand what to do? I'm wanting to take it to the water in a day or so. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Sad to say but there is no real adjustment for the shift linkage on that engine. Most likely a worn out clutch dog. Or if you are really lucky just a spun prop hub. Both can feel like they are popping out of gear. To check the prop just mark a line on the prop shaft and then on the prop. Run it. marks should still line up. If not, try a different prop.
